Overview

In winter 2023, Domino’s brought the idea back for snow. People entered their zip code on a campaign site to nominate their town, and Domino’s gave $25,000 plowing grants to 20 towns. I was one of four QA analysts who tested that site.

The Project

One nomination per person, and every one counted

Nominations ran from December 4, 2023 to January 21, 2024, on a campaign site where anyone 13 or older could submit their zip code. The rule was one submission per email address, and the grants depended on which towns drew the most support.

That made the form the whole campaign. If someone could get around the one-per-email rule, they could stack nominations for their own town. If invalid entries got through, or submissions failed or weren’t tracked, the count that decided the grants would be wrong. And it all had to work on every browser and screen size.

Our Approach

Test the whole path, not just the page

We tested every step a person would take, from landing on the page to the confirmation email in their inbox. All testing was manual and tracked in Jira.

My Role

One of four QA analysts

I was a QA analyst on a four-person QA team. I worked across every type of testing and reported issues directly to the developers.

  1. 01Ran injection testing on the nomination and sign-up fields
  2. 02Compared builds against the designs at each breakpoint
  3. 03Reviewed site and email copy, and tested the emails end to end

Impact & Results

$500,000 to 20 snowy towns

  • ~27KNominations in seven weeks
  • 7,400Zip codes nominated
  • 20Towns given $25,000 to plow

In seven weeks, the site collected close to 27,000 nominations from 7,400 zip codes across all 50 states. Domino’s gave 20 of those towns $25,000 each for snow removal, from Anchorage, Alaska to Oil City, Pennsylvania.

These results belong to everyone who built the campaign: strategy, design, development and QA.
